Family Assistants - The New Child Care Trend

Does your family home need someone who can assist in with all areas? Children in full time education and your needs have changed as a family? Looking for someone to care for the children, pick up the dry cleaning, wash the bed linen, book the Eurostar for half term, walk the dog and cook a family meal? We found that a lot of families were unsure of just what role title to give such a person, it’s safe to say it’s not a Nanny and it’s too much for an Au Pair to take on.  We have the solution in a Family Assistant. They are experienced in childcare, can cook, happy to clean, do admin and have a a minimum of good conversational level of English. It’s the middle road between hosting an au pair experience and hiring a professional nanny for the children only, plus it’s highly affordable!

What Is A Family Assistant?

Family Assistant’s are an extra pair of hands around the home, the third (or second) parent. They will help with childcare, both sole charge and shared care. They can also cook a family meal, get the laundry and ironing completed, change the beds, go shopping, pick up the dry cleaning and walk the dog. They are what we would call a ‘Middle Person’ between an au pair (who only helps with the children and their items in the home on an experience) to a Nanny (who only does childcare and nursery duties). They are different from a Mother’s Help, as with a Family Assistant – they can take sole charge of children, whereas a Mother’s Help is there to support Mum through the day.

Who Are Our Family Assistants?

Our family assistants are men and women from the UK and Europe who are seeking to gain some additional experience working within private households. Looking for families who need more than just childcare. They are similar to a personal assistant, but the large majority of their work load is looking after the children and home.

We have Family Assistants who come from an administration background and have a large focus on the admin side of the family. We have teachers from Spain who are focusing on the children’s language skills and teaching them how to make an excellent paella! We have football coaches from Italy who drive and keep the children active all summer. Whilst focusing on their main skills that they bring to the family, they are also keeping the family unit organised and running to schedule. They are cooking dinner, school runs and exercising the pups.
Our family assistants have to have conversational English to be able to communicate efficiently within the family, they have to have working status in the UK and checked references that confirm their skill set and personality.
They are looking for their initial step into the world of private household staff, working with children and have a dream to peruse a career with children.
